On 1 to 4 July 2019, the final stage of the XIX Best in Profession contest among Transneft employees was held in Samara. Transneft Volga Region hosted the event. According to the results of the competition, the host party won 6 gold medals out of 13 and came first in the team standings.
Theory Backed by Practice
In his welcoming speech, Pavel Revel-Muroz, Vice President of Transneft, noted that the Company used a systematic approach to train its personnel: "This contest provides an opportunity to evaluate the quality of training our professionals receive and see how they master new equipment and new technologies."

Intense three-day competitions were held simultaneously at several venues. Representatives of the following main professions related to oil and petroleum products pipeline transportation fought a good battle for the title of the best of the best: petroleum products pumping station operators, commodity loading operators, processing units repairmen, drivers, excavator operators, electrical equipment repair and maintenance fitters. For the first time, exhibition performances were held by the repair brigades of Transneft Volga Region and Transneft Siberia, and the host team won.
Difficult Tasks and Great Results
The team of Transneft Volga Region, demonstrated excellent results, winning six gold medals. Mikhail Noskov became best among the petroleum products pumping station operators. "My rivals were very well prepared, so, of course, I was worried. But when it was time for the practical stage of the competition, and I sat down into the operator’s chair, there was nothing to worry about, I just did my job,” said Mikhail.
Aleksandr Zakharov from the Samara Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (RPD) of Transneft Volga Region became the best commodity loading operator, Anton Trofimov from the Saratov RPD was the best processing units repairman, Nikolay Astapov from the Samara RPD won the competition among drivers, and Aleksey Saprykin won first place among excavator operators.
“The most difficult was the ’drawing’ task when we had to make the heavy vehicle do the fine work of writing a word with a brush attached to the excavator bucket,” commented Aleksey.
Dmitry Buzlayev, Director General of Transneft Volga Region, noted that he was very pleased with the results: "Six first places and the victory in the team standings are a great achievement, the result of hard work and an indicator of the high professionalism of our mentors."
A combined team of the winners of Transneft’s competitions of the last two years will take part in an international contest of professional skills, which will be held in August 2019 at the premises of KazTransOil (the Republic of Kazakhstan).
The contest was an important event for Transneft, not only in terms of professionalism, but also in terms of charity. During the contest of professional skills, boarders of the children’s home in Chapayevsk received a minibus as a gift.
"This is not just a minibus, this is a real start in life, because the children will be able to go to festivals, art contests and sports competitions. Thanks to Transneft, this has become a reality!" said Natalya Kalabekova, Headmaster of the children’s home.
It is worth recalling that the volunteer movement united more than 40 thousand Transneft employees. In 2018, the Company did more than 850 good deeds, and more than 54 thousand people received the necessary assistance.
