Transneft has carried out a preliminary review of results of its corporate school education development charity programme in 2018. Funding in 2017 – 2018 for the programme, which is designed to last from 2017 until 2019, was 392.2 million roubles, including 261.7 million for provision of modern study equipment and 130.5 million for renovation of classrooms. All of the work was completed by the start of the school year.
The purpose of the programme is to create conditions for high-quality education, helping schoolchildren in small towns and villages in Russian regions where the Company’s subsidiaries have operations, to obtain a strong grounding in the exact sciences.
Transneft's large-scale, three-year education development programme will benefit 169 town and villages in the regions where the Company has presence, in eight of Russia's federal districts. A total of 241 schools will receive targeted assistance.
Thanks to Transneft, the schools will be able to improve the quality of their exact sciences teaching, ensuring that students obtain the knowledge they need in order to enter vocational education institutions and learn an engineering profession.
Schools are using the funds provided to acquire various educational equipment, including laboratory and demonstration devices, interactive multimedia systems, digital laboratories and equipment for the conduct of experiments. Teachers, students and parents have been appreciative of the work that has been carried out so far.
The largest volume of work is planned for 2019, when the Company will spend 1117.15 million roubles (692.0 million on equipment and 425.1 million on repairs to school buildings).
Transneft is channelling 1,509.4 million roubles in total to its corporate charity programme for the development of school education, of which 953.7 million for school equipment and 555.7 million for repairs.
The programme for 2017 – 2019 has particular significance in view of recent initiatives by the President of Russia. Presidential Decree No. 204 of 07.05.2018, On National Goals and Strategic Objectives for the Development of Russian Federation in the Period until 2024 sets a number of objectives for education, including the introduction of new approaches to teaching and instruction in primary and secondary education, the use of educational technologies to help students develop basic skills and abilities, and greater focus on children's motivation and involvement in the educational process.
