Representatives of Transneft, JSC, took part in the Conference of Heads of Government of the Baltic Sea States for Environmental Protection of the Baltic Sea (the Baltic Sea Forum), which took place on April 5–6, 2013 in St. Petersburg. The conference was held as one of the event of the Year of Environmental Protection in Russia and in the context of the presidency of Russia in the Council Baltic Sea States in 2013. Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation D.A. Medvedev took the floor at the conference.
During the conference, the specialists of Transneft, JSC, made a presentation - “Environmental Safety of the Water Area of the Gulf of Finland during Operation of Specialized Sea Oil Port of Primorsk, LLC. The project of the Baltic Pipeline System, for the purpose of which the specialized sea oil port was built, affects the interests not only of Russia, but also of a number of European countries located in the regions of the Baltic and the North Seas. This circumstance necessitated the implementation of the most stringent environmental regulations – both Russian and international – when the project was put into effect. As a result, over the period of operation of Spetsmornefteport "Primorsk" the content of oil products dissolved in the water of the Gulf of Finland decreased dramatically and as of today is equal to 0.008–0.010 mg/dm3, i.e. 5 times as low as the required levels. Transneft, JSC, gives the similar attention to environmental safety in Ust-Luga Port that was built during the second stage of BPS.
By today, all the entities of Transneft, JSC, have prepared, adopted and certified the Environmental Management System. During annual international; audits the operations of the Company and its subsidiaries are regularly inspected to confirm their total compliance with the requirements of the environmental laws of the Russian Federation and with the applicable international standards. The major investment projects of Transneft, JSC, are implemented in compliance with the Environmental Policy of the Company and with consideration of the principle of the environmental accountability of Transneft, JSC. The sea oil loading terminals of Transneft, JSC, are provided with the latest equipment. For the purpose of mitigation of the impact on the environment, the Company has prepared and is implementing special-purpose regional measures aimed at protection of air, soil, flora, fauna and water resources. The results of the annual local environmental monitoring and industrial environmental control are submitted to the respective environmental organizations.
