Date of publication: 27 March 2020

Transneft has received a letter of commendation from the Russian Society of Military History for its help with the project of building the Rzhev memorial site in Rzhevsky District of Tver Region.

Creating the biggest modern Russian memorial site dedicated to the deeds of Soviet soldiers is now close to completion. Opening of the Rzhev Memorial will be the main event in celebrating the 75thanniversary of the Great Victory.

The Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier is a crowdsourcing project, but it also enjoys the support of sponsors, Transneft being one of these. The Company made a charitable donation to the Federal State-Funded Institution of Culture “Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.”

“It is with gratitude that we remember your significant contribution to the memorial construction and how far we advanced in implementing this project due to your support,” reads the letter of appreciation.

The Russian Society of Military History commendedTransneft on its desire to preserve the memory of the immortal feat of our compatriots for future generations, for its truly patriotic civic stance, for respect for the heroes who endowed this nation with a future.

The construction of the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier in Tver Region is carried out at the initiative of veterans of the Great Patriotic War at the site of fierce battles on the Rzhev-Vyazma Salient back in 1942-1943. The 25-metre bronze figure of the Soldier that crowns a tall mound has been set up on M9 highway near the city of Rzhev. The names of fallen heroes will be immortalised here on steel plates and in a multimedia exposition of a museum pavilion that will become a branch of the Victory Museum.

The grand opening of the monument will take place on 9 May 2020, when the nation will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
