On 23–24 October 2019, the Russia–Africa summit was for the first time held in the city of Sochi. Representatives of 54 countries were invited to participate. Energy cooperation was among the main subjects for discussion.
A session dedicated to the development of energy cooperation between Russia and African nations was part of the business programme at the Russia–Africa 2019 Economic Forum.
Vice President of Transneft Mikhail Margelov, who participated in the discussion, reported on the plan to develop cooperation with the Moroccan fuel and energy sector. “We are willing to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Moroccan oil and gas company ONHYM. We have everything ready, and may well sign this agreement towards this year’s end,” he said.
The memorandum implies examination of Transneft’s potential in providing in-line inspection services. According to Mr. Margelov, Transneft is developing its engagement with Sonatrach in Algeria: “We are delivering several projects at once: tank protection from lightning strikes, in-line inspection and scientific research.”
