Delegates of Transneft, led by Vice President Pavel Revel-Muroz, have visited GAZ Group’s manufacturing site in Nizhny Novgorod. The visit was part of a cooperation agreement signed between the two companies this year. The given agreement is tailored to develop projects promoting the use of vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the regions where Transneft subsidiaries operate.
The Company’s representatives familiarised themselves with the line of vehicles having CNG engines manufactured by GAZ Group; they visited the main conveyor belt of the plant and had a look at the equipment of GAZ’s natural gas fueling station, modular natural gas stations and the process of their manufacturing.
Transneft makes methodical effort to switch its vehicles to natural gas engine fuel. Respective measures are taken to cut operating costs as well as to implement the Development Programme in the Field of Procurement of Transportation and Specialty Vehicles for Transneft for the period of 2017–2021, approved by the Company’s Management Board, and the Programme for Switching Transneft’s Transportation and Specialty Vehicles to Natural Gas.
The main advantage of using CNG as motor fuel is its price. Pilot operation of 49 CNG-powered vehicles at Transneft subsidiaries resulted in fuel expenditure reduction of up to 50%, as compared to using similar vehicles running on traditional types of liquid fuel.
The undeveloped natural gas fueling infrastructure is the main factor hampering a faster increase in the number of vehicles powered by CNG and LNG. To develop this infrastructure in the regions where Transneft subsidiaries operate, Transneft signs cooperation agreements with the leading players of the natural gas engine fuel market: Gazprom, Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel, GAZ and others.
