Date of publication: 11 January 2018 Printable version

Transneft has inaugurated the Energy Saving Year. Energy management policies have been effectively implemented at all industrial facilities of Transneft subsidiaries. Transneft is the first Russian company to be awarded a certificate for the entire energy management system implemented both in the Company’s executive office and across the entire technological chain.

In 2017, due to a range of technical and organizational measures, specific electric power consumption in oil transportation went down by 0.59%; in petroleum products transportation – by 0.82%. Power savings resulting from the measures taken are worth RUB 356 million. The Company has already saved more than RUB 5 billion in five recent years. By using energy saving technologies, the Company cut its production costs and reduced harmful emissions.

To further raise the energy efficiency, Transneft has developed technical solutions for creating an energy efficient oil pumping station and continued its research into renewable energy.

Last year the energy efficiency activities of Transneft were highly appreciated by the Ministry of Energy and the professional community. At the Fourth All-Russian Contest of Completed Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Enhancement Projects ENES-2017, the Company was honored with the first prize in the nomination “Best integrated programme implemented in the fuel and energy sector to promote energy saving and energy efficiency” and also received a diploma for “Effective management system promoting energy saving and energy efficiency at a fuel and energy enterprise”.

Starting on 1 January 2018, the Year of Energy Saving kicked off in Transneft and its subsidiaries. The Company will continue implementing new technologies to reduce energy consumption, such as a solar farm at the Russian Electric Motors facility under construction in Chelyabinsk, installation of an enhanced performance experimental boiler in the Perm RPD, a photovoltaic station at Transneft Volga Region.

The energy saving programme for 2018 must result in the reduction of specific electric power consumption in oil transportation by at least 0.5% and in significant savings of consumed fuel and energy resources, worth at least RUB 256 million.

During the year Transneft plans to participate in international forums and trade fairs to exchange experience and achievements in the field of energy savings. The Company plans participation in various events that raise awareness around the subject of energy, resource, and nature friendliness. Transneft will also hold photography and children’s painting contests devoted to energy efficiency enhancement.
